Characteristics of Entrepreneur|What Makes an Entrepreneur?
71Many people dream of starting their own business, but not everyone takes the leap. Of those aspiring businesspeople who do take that leap, only a small percentage will be successful.
Entrepreneurs who are successful seem to just have a knack for business. So what characteristics make for a successful entrepreneur?
Hard Work.
Being a hard working self-starter is probably the most important
characteristic of entrepreneurs. If you are the type of person who gets
easily distracted or values couch potato time above everything else,
then business ownership may not be for you. Hard work is the keystone
of success and business owners have to be the first to arrive, the last
to leave, and the one who picks up all the slack in between. Starting
a business from home? Then hard work is especially important because
the distractions of working from home are many.
Starting
a business, no matter the size or type, is a lot less glamorous once
you get down to brass tacks. Entrepreneurs often have to wear the hat
of the CEO, CFO, Secretary, Receptionist, Accountant, Office Manager,
and Maid. It is imperative that business owners not be turned off by
doing the less glamorous jobs when they are necessary.
Driven By Achievement.
The desire to achieve is also a very important – and very common –
characteristic among successful entrepreneurs. Most successful
businesspeople are motivated by the desire to achieve and to win.
Competitiveness is a common characteristic among entrepreneurs. They
don’t like to come in second or third, they push themselves to win.
Balance.
Having a good sense of balance is also very important. If an
entrepreneur is too comfortable taking risks, he or she could gamble
away the entire business on bad decisions. But having a good sense of
balance – knowing when to take risks and when to play it safe – is a
common characteristic of entrepreneurs who have found success in the
business world.
The
formula for success is different for every person and for every
business, but there are some general characteristics of a good
entrepreneur. Those include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Responsible
- Hard Worker
- Risk Taker
- Creative
- Flexible
- Follows through with ideas
- Personable
- Optimistic
- Perceptive
- Self-confident
- Determined
- High degree of energy
- Innovative
- Independent
- Ability to anticipate needs
- Effective communicator
- Responsive to criticism
- Able to take the lead
- Learn from mistakes
- Self-directed

Thats a pretty good list of terms that I would associate with a successful entrepreneur.
Hard work can be emphasised enough. I am self employed and see others in my position that just are not willing to put the hours in. They are always shocked that buyers don't flock to them when they only work for a few days a week.
Good stuff, I will have a read through your new hubs once they crop up.
