More and more women are choosing to leave their jobs and branch out on their own and become business owners. Currently, women are starting business twice as often as men. Choosing to start your own business involves a lot of decision making, not the least of which is that first decision: what type of business to start. For women who are ready to be their own boss, but aren’t quite sure what they want to do, there are some questions that can be asked to help guide you in the right direction as you look for the right business idea.

Finding a list of entrepreneur ideas that excite and invite you to get going in business isn't as easy as you might think, so let's see if we can put you on the road to business success.

  • What do you like to do?

It helps to do what you like, and if you can make a business out of a passion, then you’ll probably always like what you do. Jot down some ideas based on what your hobbies are, what motivates you, and what you are good at. If you’ve never picked up a pot or pan in your life, it wouldn’t make much sense to start a catering company. But if you enjoy writing, there may be hundreds of business ideas you can glean from that talent and passion.

  • What are you good at doing?

We all have talents. Some people make careers out of their athletic or artistic ability, but not all of us are blessed with those gifts. Some gifts and talents are less obvious than being able to swing a golf club or belt out a song like Celine Dion. What are you good at? If you are a people person and your friends tend to be persuaded by your opinion, you might look at a business that involves direct sales.

If you are not sure what your professional talents are, look back at old performance reviews from work. What have your bosses told you your strengths were? Make a list of what others have said about you and use those as building blocks for your business ideas.

  • What do you need from this business venture?

It is very important to understand your motivation for starting a business. Are you a stay at home mom who needs extra income? Are you a stay at home mom who just needs something to do? Are you a working mother who wants to spend more time with your kids? Do you want to make an impact on the world around you? Jot down what is motivating you into entrepreneurship. If you want a job that allows you to spend more time with your kids, that can affect the type of business idea that you choose since you’ll need something that allows you to work around their schedule.

There are literally thousands of business ideas for women who are looking to branch out on their own and become a business owner. Use these brainstorming ideas to help you figure out what type of business might be a good fit for your lifestyle, your family, and most importantly – you.
